My next great adventure

Okay, I did the NASCAR tracks, and now it's time to start planning my next adventure. I have an overwhelming desire to go through the Chunnel, that tunnel between England and France, under the English Channel.
Now, mind you, I have no desire to see either Country as a vacation or sightseeing tour. I JUST want to go through the Chunnel with as little travel in Europe as absolutely necessary. I would get off a plane, go to the tunnel and through it, then right to an airport for home, the same day if possible. While I am intrigued by the idea of the tunnel and how it was built, there's nothing outside it that catches fancy.
My question? Have you traveled through the chunnel? Do you know anyone who has? How far is a major airport on either side? I understand that one can only go through on a train. Is there train service to major cities, or does the train end at the end of the tunnel, leaving passengers to change trains or make other arrangements?
