Re: Not sure this is a good idea

If activism includes individual as well as group conferences with county officials, the sheriff's dep't, and local TV and newspaper reporters, then we've been VERY active. Individual attempts to fool speeding drivers into slowing down are temporarilly successful. Actions which result in monetary loss to drivers (i.e. radar, stop sticks [see earlier posts]) get some attention but are transient. The ultimate solution may be to get the road declared a private thoroughfare and have gates installed at either end. We'll leave that to others as we're thinking about relocating. -----------------------------------

In the biggest city/town (Ukiah, ~20K people) in Mendoland there is a residential street that became a shortcut connector between a new shopping center and the main street that caused problems similar to what you describe. The residents along the street complained enough that the street was given a winding course and numerous speed bumps in order to slow down the traffic. Become a local activist!
