I lived through stuff like this when I was a kid, and later in my mid-twenties. It seemed like fires went in cycles, and for a few years when I was in my teens, we didn't have fires in the desert area where I grew up and later lived for a while.
I hope things remain OK for you and your family, and for all the others. And that people who've been burned out are able to recover. I remember a scene in that old Robert DeNiro and Kurt Russell movie, "Backdraft" when one of the characters talks about the roar of fires and fires talking to him. And they do. Until you've been involved in one, you really don't understand the noise.
