It's the law here, too, that kids are not left unsupervised in cars. A few years ago, a couple left their *baby* in her car seat for about five minutes, unaccompanied, in their car while they went into a store. When they came back, the baby was gone. She's never been seen since. However, we did have the law before that. And the minivan was left running, too, I noticed. Maybe she didn't want to run the battery down with the DVD. I don't know. But as I left in my taxi, I wondered how long it might take on this, or another occasion, for the kid to drive it away. My taxi had to pass the running minivan, and I warned the driver to watch that it didn't suddenly lurch into our path.
