I was taught. My sisters were taught. My brothers were taught. My mother taught us. That was her job, to teach her children how to be adults. Part of the job of parents is to teach their children how to be adults and how to be parents, if only by doing what's right. In our family, we learned by example. And my mother was taught by her father, and he was taught by his father.
Where does the buck end up in your family? Did you teach your children or, as your post implies, did you choose to let someone else do it because you either didn't "have time" or didn't know how? I doubt it.
