General anesthesia for colonoscopy is just not necessary. And, yes, it's invasive when you think of a tube snaking its way along the entire length of your large intestine, but the tube is maybe finger diameter and flexible. Instruments inside the tube allow the doc to see everything and to snip off any polyps or other tissue for biopsy. I had five removed Tuesday, and, aside from some cramping that day, there was no discomfort by the next day at all.
Wisdom tooth extraction is an entirely different kind of procedure as it involves cutting into sensitive tissue and bone.
Really, I'm not lying. I've had three of these things now, and the procedure is nothing to fear and is not painful. It's the colon cleansing the previous day that is a pain in the ass, so to speak.
