It would be very unusual for them to "put you out." More likely, it was an IV combination of pain killer and sedative. Some docs use a higher dose of sedative than others, and you are in such a twilight zone that you often do not even remember the procedure. Because you are not under general anesthesia, there is *much* less of a risk of adverse complications, and the recovery is quite quick and simply involves the sedative wearing off.

I've had one such procedure as described above. This most recent one, earlier this week, was with a lighter dose of sedative as that was this doc's preference. Even though I was conscious, I was in no great discomfort due to the pain killer, and very relaxed due to the sedative. Truly, as procedures go, it was a breeze. Recovery is simply coming out of the fog of sedation. The only discomfort is the fact that you may have cramps from the air that is introduced into your colon to expand it for the procedure. They insist you pass gas several times before they release you. You will need to have someone drive you home, but you're pretty much back to normal in a couple hours.
