Most who have been through disc surgery have learned that walking is vital to a strong back for them. And for many of us, sciatica is a result of nerve pinching. After surgery, walking is mandated by the surgeon in most cases.
I walked four miles a day for three months afterward to strengthen the muscles. Then, of course, I knew more than the doctor and drove the four miles to save time.
As well, sitting position is another very important consideration. Back straight, lumbar support, no slouching. Driving with one's knees above the level of the hips helps, as well.
