with easy access to lots of wilderness areas (known to the rest of us regular Canucks as "the bush," just as "wetlands" are what we call "swamps" or further north, "muskeg") we have a fair population of stuck in the sixties folks.
I have no idea how they support themselves. Social Security up here is about $468 a month for everyone, and isn't based on lifetime earnings and contributions. Everyone gets it, whether they ever worked or not. Another over-sixty-five benefit is based on length of working career, partly on your own contributions (employers pay a portion, too) and lifetime earnings.
So some aging hippies must be having a hard time keeping body and soul together, since many of them were entrepreneurial, and didn't work for someone else. And in some cases, their entrepreneurship (growing pot) has been destroyed since the pros moved in with huge hydroponic grow ops.
I realize I'm growing cranky with old age, but it offends me when some of them assume their favourite position on the moral high ground and deliver the Sermon on the Mount to lesser beings such as I am--the "canine companion" issue being an example.
