Re: Bratty yes, however

I've "mainstreamed" several kids with autism spectrum disorder, mostly because many other teachers (to my displeasure bordering on disgust) have refused to do so. This boy's speech patterns weren't typical of Asperger's that I've seen. (A note--both Asperger's kids I've known functioned well in a normal school setting, were with other kids all the time. One was the vice-president of our student council.) And his behaviour wasn't a panic/flight type of thing. If it was an autism disorder difficulty, I think it would have been more "Get me outta here!" because of there being too many stimuli around him. I could certainly understand that with an autistic kid. It's just overwhelming for them. This kid was very verbal, coherent, and was saying he didn't want to have to wait to see a doctor. Way more capable of clearly expressing how angry he was than any autism spectrum disorder kid I've ever dealt with.
