Re: I don't understand the human race

All I'm doing is arguing the point that funerals are for the living. Others here say that, and I am agreeing. Funerals ARE for the living, and if you feel that way, why not let the living address it? Those that have said it here SEEM to feel that funerals are for the living, except THEIR funeral, which they want to run from the grave.
My point is that I know that bfunerals and wakes are the way I deal with death, and I'm sure there are many more. Every time I feel enough for a dead friend or aquiantence, I attend services if there are any. When I go to a cemetery for a burial or commital service, I stay until the burial is complete, so that I can know that the last people who were with the friend were not people that didn't know or care about the dead person. Then I go let the family know that I stayed, the burial is complete, and it was done with dignity and respect.
Every family has thanked me. Since my sister died, my family members have taken up the practice. When several of my friends died, other friends and I stayed and actually buried the deceased. We wanted to be there for them when they "went".
It doesn't matter to me who is there, if there is a service at all, or if no one attends other peoples' services. I just know what I need to be able to deal with the death of a loved one, and your way ain't it.
I couldn't be happy with sending a loved one in a cardboard box. I don't think I would have a loved one cut up for science. I don't want anyone to have my heart or eyes. And I want my family to be able to say goodbye to my mother in whatever way helps them to deal with death. A funeral is an hour. Dead is alot longer.
