For some reason, something Kinky Friedman (iconoclastic country singer, quondam mystery writer and grudging ailurophile) once observed comes to mind here (which I shall paraphrase, as I cannot find the original for the nonce): if he were to die in his apartment, his cat, lacking opposable thumbs and thus unable to open for herself any cans of Southern Gourmet Dinner, would doubtless happily feast on his remains. (Hey, lifelong cat-lover or no, even I never forget that their short alimentary canal makes all cats obligate carnivores, so do the math...?;-) )
In her defense, I quote the Kinkstah accurately, from any one of his mystery novels (all recommended for fans of the genre, IMNSHO): "Meanwhile, the cat said nothing." ?;-)
