When I was about ten my grandmother dies, and I was asked if I wanted to attend her funeral. I said no, reason being that I felt, even at that age, that funerals were morbid and weird affairs.
I spent the afternoon with a friend of my parents, walking in the woods of southern NH while she did her volunteer shift at the nearby nature center.
My grandmother loved the outdoors and nature, and that seemed like a much more fitting way to think about her, in the woods she loved so much.
