I don't think any of us who lived thru it and are over 6 years old will ever forget what we were doing when it happened. I vividly remember hearing Kennedy was shot, then that he died, and I was just a kid.
I also remember watching in horror as Challenger blew up. I have always loved the study of space, and I had actually seen the previous challenger launch in person.
I remember waking up to the news that Columbia broke apart and watching those awful streamers in the sky that I knew were pieces of the craft.
And waking up to the news of the tsunami in 2004... horrid.
One of the worst was thinking New Orleans had been spared by Katrina, then seeing the news a few hours later and finding NO destroyed.
I think these immense tragedies just make their mark on all of us, and we sort of freeze that moment in time in our brains, and live them over again many times.
I watched the History Channel a lot this past Thursday, and I sat here and cried just as I did when I watched it live in 2001. In a way, it was worse, because this time I knew the outcome.
I can't imagine anyone forgetting this day, ever.
