There aren't many cops that I would trust to answer a legal question. In my experience, many cops don't know the law, civil OR criminal. They have quick access to criminal statutes, but most don't know without the book.
I learned that when I was in the repossession business. More than a few cops kept me from legally repossessing vehicles because of their ignorance. Some kept me from towing vehicles. I had to sue to be able to repossess legally in one townm. I was asked to conduct seminars at police stations around this State because cops just don't know the law.
