I think you're putting the cart before the horse, in a way. Taking pleasure together strengthens social bonds, and strong social bonds can be a huge survival advantage for any species. Compare humans to orangutans, for example: we have a lot of the same genes, but orangutans lead a relatively solitary life, while we are as social as rats. The orangutans are now endangered by our burgeoning numbers.

I don't think causality is working in a straight-arrow way here; I think it's working in a circle (a vicious circle, from an orangutan's point of view). Rather than saying humans have sex for with each other for pleasure because we have sufficient leisure, or vice versa -- that we have sufficient leisure because we have sex for pleasure -- I'd say that having sex with each other for pleasure strengthens social bonds, which makes us more successful, so we have more leisure time, so we have more sex for pleasure, and so on.

Of course nothing is simple in biology. There are things that slow the cycle down, like sexually transmitted diseases and jealousy, and the fact that as valuable as social bonds are, you can't eat them, so eventually you have to stop fucking and go hunting; and factors that help us in other ways, like opposable thumbs and big brains. If having sex with each other for fun was all a species needed to succeed, bonobos would rule the world, wouldn't they?
