I'm not sure it's widely accepted as human behavior. I would posit that its only a behavior of secular humanists. Certainly some humans will burn in their own hell for engaging in this form of abomination.
Stated in a less flip, and perhaps more serious way: Procreation is is governed by Darwinian selectivity. Animals that try to procreate in a (non-fertile) way that will not produce offspring will not be successful.
So use of sex for pleasure would ordinarily be a pleasure activity of a species that has the luxury of spare time; that is, it is not out hunting or nest building for survival. So its probably just for humans and any other species that is very successful to a point of having leisure/play time.
