Well, it seems to me that most polyamorists start from that place, so it can't be totally unusual. It seems that polyamory is far more "popular" than swinging these days. But that is just my impression based on anecdotal evidence.
At any rate, I think it is more accurate to say what you have said here, instead of a blanket statement that can't be true, since it would have to be true in all cases.
