There weren't many limits with the one partner that I swung with. We already had agreements about safer sex with others and a pledge not to interfere with each others' outside relationships.
One agreement specific to swinging that we had, however, was to not "take one for the team." We both had to agree that we were interested in and felt comfortable with both members of the other couple. We made sure that the other couple knew that we would discuss things after a first date and let them know where we stood after that. Most couples seemed to appreciate the opportunity to do the same.
A couple that I now see occasionally, had so much trouble finding the single women they wanted to hook up with, that the lady would consent to playing with the male of a couple that included a woman they both really liked. I guess she felt that was worth her while.
