I've operated under the assumption that superficiality should be avoided and have discounted lack of attraction in deciding whether or not to date men or pursue greater intimacy in the past. It doesn't go well in the end when you find that there is no pull toward physical intimacy for you and your partner is interested and it's 3 months and a dozen or so sexual experiences later...
I always consider attraction in who I choose to date now.
