in recent years refused to marry heterosexual couples because it wasn't legal to marry homosexual couples. So dedication to principle isn't strictly a conservative trait.
There used to be laws against blacks and whites getting married, so those folks who refused to wed blacks and whites were devoted to a principle. Devotion to a principle doesn't necessarily make the principle correct.
Since the gay folks in those counties will not have any problem finding ministers willing to perform the ceremony, I don't see how this is anything but a sort of civil protest.
For the life of me, I cannot truly understand why people are so upset about gay folks marrying. How does it hurt anybody?
