I understand your disgust, but I don't understand your lead-in. What exactly is cutting off their nose to spite their face? How does that fit in here? I see County Clerks protesting and refusing to do that which is morally wrong to them, and finding a legal loophole to do it. People of all irks use legal loopholes all the time, much the same as those that want homosexuals to be able to marry used the loophole that the laws of the times didn't explicitly exclude it. Not much different than a doctor who is morally against performing an abortion, as the morality of it goes. Legal for the County Clerks. Sometimes it goes the other way.
