Re: Blood Donation Question

It is very, very unlikely that HIV would be transmitted in your scenario. Usually only a few viruses are acquired by sexual contact and they have to find, and get themselves incorporated into, a specific cell type (I forget which one; A type of lymphocyte?). Next the virus uses cellular machinery to replicate itself, and for there to be enough viruses flowing in the blood to be infectious to another person, this process of cellular infection and virus multiplication has to repeat many times. Like all infection, and much of life in general, is a probabilistic process.
