As may be, friend GeorgeSmiley -- and one might also consider the more scholarly (albeit still non-academic) work of Jack Morin, MD, whose 1981 book Anal Pleasure and Health: A Guide for Men and Women, which book I recommend wholeheartedly, has become a landmark in the field (and whose ten rules of anal sex are good common sense whence I sit, though YMMV).
